Reasons to Consider Adopting a Senior Pet

November 1, 2016

Did you know that November is Adopt A Senior Pet Month? There are far too many senior pets in shelters, hoping someone will adopt them and give them a great forever home. Although older dogs and cats can make absolutely wonderful pets, these sweet and lovable animals often have a very hard time getting adopted. Read on as a Las Vegas, NV vet lists some great reasons to think about adopting a senior pet.

Give A Second Chance

Older pets often end up being put up for adoption through no fault of their own. Some were lost, others were separated from their owners, often through unfortunate circumstances, and, sadly, some have been abandoned by their owners after years of love and devotion. By adopting a senior pet, you’re giving that one lucky dog or cat a new lease on life, and a second chance at happiness. If you’re ready to bring a new animal companion into your home, consider giving a sweet older pet a great retirement home. You may find that this is a very beautiful and rewarding experience for you both!

Prior Experience

Many senior dogs and cats are already trained, and know the do’s and don’ts of being a pet. Being able to skip over housebreaking is definitely a plus!

They’re Super Sweet

Older pets often develop a very sweet demeanor that many people find absolutely delightful. These lovable dogs and cats are still full of purrs and tail wags, and just want someone to love them.

Calm Temperaments

We know, kittens and puppies are super cute. They’re also super frisky! Senior pets are often more interested in spending quiet quality time with their owners than in running and playing. An older dog may be perfectly content plodding along faithfully beside his human friend on their daily walks, while many senior cats just want to curl up on a warm lap. This loving disposition makes older pets a great choice for people who may have trouble keeping up with a rambunctious baby animal.

They’re Adorable!

Last but not least, older pets are really very cute! Dogs look quite charming and distinguished with grey in their muzzles. And senior kitties are completely adorable when they are curling up for yet another nap.
