Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus

June 12, 2020

6/17/20 Update: We expect this vaccine to arrive sometime in July!

Aloha Animal Hospital Rabbit Owner Alert:

Cases of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus were confirmed in Nevada in April. This potentially deadly disease can affect both wild and pet rabbits with a variety of symptoms including sudden death with no other signs. We are working diligently to help protect the bunnies of our community. While there is no vaccine currently approved for use in the U.S., we are working with local veterinarians and our state veterinarian to get special permission to import a European vaccine. If you would like to be on our email list for notification when the vaccine becomes available, please use this link .

The best way to keep your bunny safe right now is to keep them indoors and isolated from other rabbits outside your home. For more information on biosecurity measures, please visit rabbit.org .
