Did you know that February is Happy, Healthy Cat Month? (Of course, for us, every month is Happy Healthy Cat Month, but that’s beside the point.) Kitties are known for being easy keepers. However, Fluffy does still need lots of TLC to thrive. As we all know, cats need good food, fresh water, and proper veterinary care to stay healthy. However, your pet’s mental health is also very important. Here, a Las Vegas, NV vet offers tips on keeping your feline pal entertained.
Toys
Your lovable little pet is actually a predator by nature. Cats have strong instinctive urges to pounce on things, and don’t care if they look silly doing it. Offer Fluffy lots of fun toys. Kitties all have their own purrsonal preferences, so get a variety and see what your feline friend plays with the most.
Playtime
Toys are great, but to make playtime really fun and challenging for your cat, take time to hold a laser pointer or wand toy for her to chase. This is a great way to keep kitties active! If your cat is super frisky, play with her just before bedtime, and then give her a late dinner. Instead of batting a ball down the hall in the middle of the night, Fluffy will curl up and go to sleep.
Kitty Garden
Cats are safer indoors, but they do enjoy and benefit from the stimulation of going outdoors. Give Fluffy the best of both worlds by setting out some pet-safe plants for her to nibble on. Check the ASPCA site here for suggestions.
Hidey-Holes
Kitties naturally feel secure in small spaces. Offer your pet some cat tents or tipis to retreat to. Empty boxes and paper grocery bags will also work. Many cats like high places, so Fluffy may appreciate having some vertical space, such as a cat tower.
Window View
It’s no surprise that birdwatching is very entertaining for cats After all, Fluffy gets to combine two of her favorite activities: spying and relaxing. Give your kitty a comfy window seat.
Media
Do you really want to spoil your furry pal? Get Fluffy some DVDs to watch, or stream some documentaries for her. Your pet may enjoy watching programs about birds and squirrels!
