Let's All Spread Aloha!

August 2, 2021

The Meaning of Aloha

A – Akahai: kindness, expressed with tenderness

L – Lokahi: unity, expressed with harmony

O – Olu’olu: agreeable, expressed with pleasantness

H – Ha’aha’a: humility, expressed with modesty

A – Ahonui: patience, expressed with perseverance

Aloha is more than a word of greeting.  Aloha means mutual regard and affection and extends warmth in caring with no obligation in return.

As veterinary professionals, we see the spirit of Aloha in the wag of a tail, the soft purr of a kitty and in the delighted hop of a bunny. Pets really know how to love unconditionally and share that spirit even with strangers. With the pandemic still looming over us, we need kindness more than ever. A little Aloha can go a long way, so we invite you to join our mission to SPREAD ALOHA throughout the month of August everywhere we can and #LoveLikeADog.

Need some ideas for how you can help?

START SMALL:
Small gestures can really brighten a person’s day.  Maybe you can let someone go in front of you at the check out line, stop to help someone that looks lost or buy a cold drink for someone on a hot day. Try hanging a sign with a positive message in your neighborhood for people to read and as they drive or walk by, write a thank you note or pick up a piece of trash off your neighbor’s lawn. The possibilities are endless and so is the amount of love we can share. Browse these “random acts of kindness” for some ideas on how you can SPREAD ALOHA in your community: https://www.signupgenius.com/groups/random-acts-of-kindness-ideas.cfm

DONATE:
If you have more time or a few dollars to spare and would like to donate some kindness, here are some suggestions for organizations that are in need:

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s Veterinary Care Charitable Fund helps those less that may need financial assistance to provide life saving care to their pet.  You can donate here: https://www.vccfund.org/

The Animal Health Foundation also has an Angel Fund to provide assistance to those who can’t afford for a pet’s needed care and donations can be made here: https://www.animalhealthfoundation.org/how-we-help/angel-fund.html

Local animal shelter, Nevada SPCA, a no kill shelter right here is southern Las Vegas, is currently constructing a brand new facility to continue their mission of caring for homeless dogs, cats and other pets and placing them in loving homes. Donate to their new facility:
