Celebrating DOGust

August 1, 2020

Today, August 1 st , is a very special day for many of our canine patients. It’s DOGust, the unofficial shelter dog birthday! If you adopted Fido from a shelter, you likely don’t know exactly when he was born. Why not join throngs of other dog owners in celebrating their pups’ birthdays today? A Las Vegas, NV vet offers some suggestions on how to do that below.

Treats

It’s probably no surprise to find treats at the top of this list. Man’s Best Friend loves snacks! Classic options, like store-bought treats or cooked, boneless meat, fish, or chicken are fine. You can also make Fido a birthday cake. Look online for recipe ides. Just stick with ingredients that are safe for dogs.

Toys

Toys are always a guaranteed crowd pleaser among our canine companions. Pick up a new plaything for your pup. Or, make your own! For instance, you can turn an old tee shirt into a cute rope toy. Or, make Fido a plaything out of a tennis ball and an old pair of jeans. Cut the jeans into thin strips, and braid them together. Then, thread them through the tennis ball, and tie it off with big knots.

Photos

Snap some adorable candid shots of Fido enjoying his special day. You can never have too many cute pictures of your furry bff!

Bath

While most of our canine friends would probably protest this one. Fido may not be particularly fond of baths, but he does enjoy feeling clean and soft. (Plus, he’ll look extra cute in those adorable photos we just mentioned.)

Water Fun

Does your furry pal love to splash and play in water? Get him a kiddie pool to splash around in. You can use the water for plants when Fido is done.

Adventure

August is usually pretty hot around these parts, to say the least. While it may be too hot to take Fido hiking, you can treat him with a trip to a drive-through, or try a new trail with him. Just be sure to bring plenty of water along for your pooch.

Helping Other Dogs

Aside from brightening up your own pet’s day, this is also a great time to help dogs in shelters. Donate, volunteer, or even adopt!

Please contact us if there is anything we can help you with. As your local Las Vegas, NV vet clinic, we’re here to help!
