Happy New Year! Are you making resolutions for 2020? If so, why not include your dog in your goals? This is a great time to revisit your pup’s care regimen, and see if anything could be improved. A local Las Vegas, NV vet suggests some great resolutions for people with dogs below.
Playing is great for dogs. The activity gives Fido a great doggy workout, while the coordination required is good for his mind. And, since dogs often act up when they’re bored or just have too much pent-up energy, playing can also help with many behavioral problems. Play with your pet regularly!
Dogs age much more quickly than we do. Your pet’s care needs will change as he goes through the different stages of his life. Ask your vet for advice on your pup’s evolving diet and care requirements.
Training is very important, both for petiquette and safety. If Fido doesn’t know basic doggy obedience commands yet, work on that this year. Then, you can move on to advanced training. Or, show Fido a cute trick, like Roll Over or Shake Paw .
Fido will be both healthier and more comfortable with proper veterinary care. Follow your vet’s recommended appointment schedule. In between visits, watch for signs of illness. Make an appointment immediately if you notice anything unusual.
Fido may want to work on his begging skills this year. It’s fine to give your pooch a special treat, but don’t go overboard. Stick to healthy options, and keep treats to about 5 percent of your pup’s daily caloric intake. It’s also important to limit fatty treats, like bacon and sausage.
Dogs are very adventurous, and love going to new places. Let Fido enjoy a change of scenery this year. Take him on a hike, or visit a pretty park. Or, if that’s a bit much for him, go to a dog-friendly cafe for a special treat.
Dogs are living, breathing, barking reminders of how important it can be to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy some down time with your furry best friend this year!
